I was not emotionally prepared to have to schedule a vet appointment for my brand new puppy, Demi. She was only in our lives for 3 days when suddenly a very uncommon (puppy-only) skin disorder set in.
Seeing how upset the kids were and convincing them that our new puppy is NOT dying, while telling myself that my bank account isn’t allowed to die either due to this unexpected expense; was taking its toll. Like all good parents, my husband and I put on our happy faces…staying positive through vet appointments and every swipe of our debit cards. Eventually Demi was given the clear and got back to normal puppy mode – even eating our Easter candy this year. You can imagine the clean-up that resulted from that.
My point is this -random unexpected things are going to happen. They happen at work and they happen in our home lives. However, our reaction to those events is absolutely in our control. We can plan with things like insurance and we can control our reactions. Staying positive is one way to make those unplanned, and yes; miserable moments slightly less awful. My goal is to share that positive attitude with everyone I speak with, because I never know what unplanned events are unfolding in their lives.
